I am a children’s writer currently seeking an agent for my middle grade fiction.
Rural Michigan was the setting for my unconventional childhood, where my parents were the ultimate do-it-yourselfers. They built their house with their own hands on twenty acres in the woods, then provided much of our food through gardening, hunting, and fishing. My mom sewed most of my clothes when I was a kid, which was well-received in school (not!). Our family vacations involved camping all over the USA in a rickety motor home. That’s my origin story–what turned me into a writer! Despite all that, I turned out pretty normal. I understand and appreciate the little quirks that make people unique.
At the University of Michigan, I earned a dual bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology, and a Master of Science in Information. I have worked as a secretary in London, a waitress on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, and an archival intern at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. After six years as an archivist and librarian, I became a stay at home mom to my three school-age children, and now live in suburban Chicago.
I have been studying the craft of writing for children for several years, and I enjoy learning everything I can from other writers.
